'A'+ Fashion on Pretty Little Liars

I love how each Little Liar has their own distinct fashion sense. My favorite of all of them has to be Spencer! Whether she is wearing a preppy cardigan or a sweater with a horse on it, I always love it.

This is the best. coat. ever. I want it! Plus, those boots are pretty awesome.

This skirt and sweater combo. I die.

This dress is super preppy, but I love it.

You can buy Season 2 on DVD and watch Season 3 on Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC Family! Obsessed.

Got 'A' Secret...Can You Keep It?

Got 'A' secret, can you keep it? There will be spoilers for Season 2 of Pretty Little Liars in this post. You have been warned!

In the Season 2 finale of Pretty Little Liars, we found out who ‘A’ was (at least one of them...). ‘A’ has tormented the Little Liars since the very beginning of Season 1.

It’s funny, I can remember the exact moment that I pegged Mona as being ‘A.’ It was in the very first episode of Season 1. As soon as I saw Mona in a flashback chasing after Aria and Alison on a scooter, I sent my friend a text message that said, “Scooter girl is A.” Go me!

I think it was just the way she was so desperately chasing after the Little Liars.  There were also little hints dropped throughout the show - especially Season 2. You know, even though she was awful to the girls, I still feel bad for Mona. Especially because it’s pretty much guaranteed that she is not working alone.

Did you guess who ‘A’ was before the big reveal? I have to admit... I was kind of hoping Ezra was ‘A’! Perhaps he will turn out to be part of the A-Team...

You can buy Season 2 on DVD and catch up now - the second episode of PLL airs tonight (Tuesday) at 8/7c on ABC Family!
Today is also the last day for the Find the Pretty Little Lies promotion! Woo go win some good stuff!

Pretty Little Liars is Back Tomorrow!

I had always heard about the Pretty Little Liars books, but never read them until the show came out. About three minutes into the first episode, I made a guess as to who “A” was. Me being me, I had to check the books out from the library to see if I was right. I totally was. What I did not guess was the “A” that comes around in the second story arc. That took me completely by surprise and I’m really excited to see if they keep that storyline for the television show. I'm almost all caught up with the books--I think I just have the most recent one and the one full of short stories. I must check them out from the library this summer. They're perfect summer reads!

If you think you’re the ultimate Pretty Little Liars fan then make sure to participate in the online promotion ‘Find the Pretty Little Lies.’ The winner of this online promotion that was created exclusively for fans of PLL will not only get ultimate bragging rights, but will walk away with a Heather Belle purse. Plus some other super awesome goodies. This is the last week of the promotion and what you have to do is watch the video below, find the four-word mystery phrase, and then enter it on the Find the Pretty Little Lies site! Do you think you've got what it takes?

You can also check out Season 2 on DVD to prepare for the premiere of Season 3 tomorrow night! YAY!

Good luck! I hope one of us wins. Let me know if you do and I will be forever jealous.

The Past Catches Up: One Tree Hill

In Season 9 of One Tree Hill, many of the characters have a past that catches up with them. Clay finds out something from his time with his wife, Brooke has to deal with X, and Dan tries to reconnect with his family. All of these scenarios have different outcomes and it was interesting to watch the characters try to handle them.

While I haven’t had the past catch up with me quite like the characters on OTH have, many of our favorite book characters have experienced similar things. Katniss makes one decision in The Hunger Games that changes her whole future. Events in previous Harry Potter books catch up with Peter Pettigrew and ultimately lead to his death.

Even though my life isn’t quite so interesting (luckily?), I can still relate to the characters on One Tree Hill and in these amazing books. It’s always fascinating to see how a character will react when something from their past is brought back into the present.

One Tree Hill Season 9 is now available on DVD and Ultraviolet! Let the rejoicing begin. I cry a little every time I remember that I don’t own this yet.

New Challenges on One Tree Hill

While I haven’t had any challenges in my life quite like the characters on One Tree Hill (kidnapping, sleepwalking, parenthood), I think everyone can relate to how scary it is to face new challenges.

Season 9 has the characters facing some pretty new challenges and also some that are familiar, but twisted in a different way--it’s not Jamie that gets kidnapped, but Nathan! That family... they go through some rough things.

My life isn’t quite so intense, but one of my biggest challenges was going back to grad school after taking a year off after undergrad. That first semester was rough. However, I’m happy to tell you that in less than four months, I will be finished! I made it. Wooo.

I’d still prefer watching that crazy challenges the characters experience on One Tree Hill than actually facing them myself. I don’t really want to go into fugue states and forget parts of my life. Mmmkay? Thanks.

The DVD is now available for purchase (with Ultra Violet too!). I seriously need to get my hands on one of these so I can relive the crazy moments over and over again.

Chris Keller: The Ultimate Returning Character on One Tree Hill

The ninth, and final, season of One Tree Hill brought back many characters from the past--Chris Keller, Dan Scott, Lucas, and Bevin to name a few. The ultimate returning character for me had to be Chris Keller!
Chris Keller was attached to so many of the story lines and really brought something fun to the show. Not to mention, he wore some awesome glasses. We last saw him in Season 4 when the cast went to Honey Grove, Texas to rescue Mouth from jail and crash a prom.
His arrival in Season 9 was definitely a welcome one. His friendship with Chase was always brilliant--especially when Chris Keller slaps Chase in the final episode. ;) The team of Chris Keller, Dan, and Julian was also a brilliant one. I was dying every moment they were on screen together.
I love how in Season 9 we got to see that Chris Keller is actually a good person. Sure, he’s crazy and conceited, but awesome. I can’t wait to watch his scenes over and over again on DVD!
You can buy Season 9 on DVD and Ultraviolet on 4/10! I can’t wait.

One Tree Hill: Series Finale

I know this isn’t about books, but the series finale of “One Tree Hill” is this week. I am definitely a late-comer when it comes to OTH, but I am so obsessed. I started watching it this past fall and I have seriously watched every single episode. I was like a crazy person. I went and bought all of the seasons on DVD (actually, I’m still looking for Season 7--UTAH!!!!) and watched them on Netflix too. I can’t believe there is only one episode left. At least it is a two hour episode. *sniff sniff*
The characters on OTH are what have captivated me the most. Whether it’s Nathan and Haley’s relationship, the funny lines by Skills, or Brooke’s evolution, I am completely invested. **Can we just talk about how amazing Brooke and Julian are together?! LOVE.** I’m going to miss the Twitter conversations with friends after every episode discussing everything from who we prefer: Nathan, Lucas or Julian to what we think Dan Scott will be up to next.
I’m really going to miss these characters after Wednesday (at least I’ll have the DVDs), but I’m excited to see what the actors get into next. I’ll follow these people for the rest of their careers. It’s just like how I will watch everything Kristen Bell is in after loving “Veronica Mars.” What can I say, I’m loyal. On a side note, there is a girl in one of my grad school classes that I swear is the actress that plays Mia. She probably thinks that I am a major creeper.
Anyway, you should probably tune in for the series finale on Wednesday and then come and discuss it with me. I am going to be in a glass case of emotion.

You can preorder the DVD/Ultraviolet Copy, available 4/10! I need this in my life.

Music on One Tree Hill

Music plays a huge role on “One Tree Hill.” For the 8th season, different artists came to the studio and sang their own version of “I Don’t Want to Be” (originally by Gavin DeGraw).
DeGraw still performs the song in a few episodes of the season and this original is still my favorite. I think it fits best with the opening credits. The pacing and tone both work. Although--this may just be because I’m so used to hearing Gavin DeGraw’s version!
Another one of my favorite opening credits performances is by Kate Voegele (Mia on the show). It’s always fun to have one of the characters singing the songs. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she has an amazing voice.
I’m thinking someone like Adele could really work for singing “I Don’t Want to Be.” I feel like she would keep the integrity of the song. Every once in awhile one of the performances would be completely changed and it was kind of jarring. I could see Adele making it her own, yet keeping the heart of the original.
If you could pick someone to perform the song during the opening credits of “One Tree Hill,” who would it be?
Check out Season 8 of “One Tree Hill” on DVD and UltraViolet and be sure to check out the Season 9 premiere on Wednesday, January 11 at 8/7c on The CW! I’m so excited. This show is like crack to me.

PS. Did anyone see the Halloween episode in Season 8 where the kids dress up as Harry, Ron and Hermione... and Clay was Edward Cullen. So. Funny.

Pretty Little Liars Tonight!

Ahhhh, you guys! Pretty Little Liars starts tonight!!!! Pretty Little Liars left off with such a cliffhanger. I'm so anxious to see what happens. I think we’re going to see a lot more of Jason, Jenna, Garrett and (hopefully) Mona during the rest of the season.
I’m actually thinking it’s about time we find out who A is--there is always room for another A to pop up. Am I right, or am I right?
I’m so excited to see the drama escalate. I really can’t wait to see what happens with Dr. Sullivan. I need to know what A handed to her. There are so many loose ends that are just hanging out there, so I really hope we get some answers!
I do know that once we get one answer, we’ll probably have about 1,000 more questions. It’s glorious. What questions are you hoping get answered this season?

The Winter Premiere of “Pretty Little Liars” is tonight at 8/7c on ABC Family! Will you be tuning in? I. Can’t. Wait.
Missed some of the nail-biting suspense from last season? Make sure to get all caught up here!

The Other Half of Me

In Season 8 Episode 13, Brooke and Julian finally tie the knot on One Tree Hill. Their wedding was beautiful and they are actually an amazing couple. I would think anyone would want their wedding to be as full of love as Brooke and Julian’s was. The reception was also gorgeous. Amazing.
The Best Man and Maid of Honor speeches were the absolute best. Haley and Nathan’s kid is so funny. He is actually one of my favorite people on the show. I love how nervous he was about giving the speech, but then he gave such a heartfelt speech. Plus, he started with a quote from JK Rowling. I mean, COME ON! I have to make a Maid of Honor speech in June--super nervous. I should probably take notes from One Tree Hill.
Do you know of any good books with awesome wedding scenes? The only ones I can think of are Breaking Dawn and obviously Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Missed the RSVP to the wedding? Here's your special invitation with Season 8 of the One Tree Hill http://bit.ly/w2DhRu! To catch up on Season 8, you can check out the DVD, which is also available on UltraViolet. I’ve been watching on my iPhone non-stop.

Pretty Little Liars is Almost Here!!

One of my favorite episodes of “Pretty Little Liars” is where we left off before the break (thank goodness the winter premiere is January 2!!!! Um. On Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC Family in case you didn’t know, mm kay?).

Anyway, the episode is called, “Over My Dead Body.” Hanna, Aria, Spencer and Emily told their therapist about A... which cannot end well. Now their therapist is missing and the girls need to complete some tasks to save her!

They are sent these ridiculously creepy dolls and each have to do something that is pretty awful. For example, Hanna has to stop her Dad and Isabel’s wedding. I’ll leave the other tasks for when you watch the episode like I know you will. It’s all rough and I wouldn’t want to do any of it.

The police get involved and there is also some creepy Garrett/Jenna stuff. We don’t leave the girls in a very good place and I have been dying to know what happens next. All of the previews look crazy!

This is my favorite episode because it’s so suspenseful. I also love that we get to see the story unfold in little flashbacks. Do you have a favorite episode of “Pretty Little Liars”?

Dreams Do Come True

In the new comedy, 2 Broke Girls, Max and Caroline come to the realization that dreams can come true through an honest day’s work. Their dream is to open their own cupcake business (YUM!). Max and Caroline provide viewers with many, many laughs as well!
I think that achievements feel better when you actually work hard for them. I’ve always worked hard academically. With the end of my school days in sight (I finish grad school in August, woo!), I’m definitely feeling a sense of accomplishment. I’ve also landed a solid internship, in my field, and couldn’t be happier. Like Max and Caroline, it took awhile to get to this place, but I’m happy that I am here!
I can’t wait to see what other shenanigans Max and Caroline get up to. Plus, I love seeing all of the cupcakes they make!

People's Choice Awards Voting

Guys, the People’s Choice Awards are airing January 11, 2012!
You can see who is nominated and vote as often as you would like. Guess what? Pretty Little Liars was nominated for Favorite Cable TV Drama! You know I’m a little obsessed with PLL, so I’m totally voting. It was such a hard decision between PLL and True Blood. In all honesty, I’ll probably vote for both of them since you can vote as often as you like. I do know that I’m itching for PLL to start back up in January. I love that the show is a little different than the books, so I’m dying to know what happens!
I hope Spencer and Toby make it. They’re precious together. I can’t wait to finally, officially find out who A is. We were left with little clues, but could they just be leading us on a wild goose chase? Will we find out when the show starts up again? I need to know!
Favorite New TV Comedy was a really tough choice. 2 Broke Girls and Suburgatory are definitely stand-out comedies for me. I love New Girl as well, but ultimately, my vote went to Suburgatory.
Harry Potter is also nominated for about 1,000 awards... obviously I voted for them in each category. Duh.
What shows/movies/musicians are you going to vote for?

Do You Think Aliens Exist?

In episode nine of season two on V, Anna tries to bliss a human. She is elated that she can control humans the same way she does Visitors. Now she simply has to bliss the humans into listening to her in order to gain total control of Earth.
This is actually pretty relevant with all of the talk of aliens on the news lately. I definitely think that there is some other life out there. I mean, why would we be the only ones? That’s a bit conceited, right? The real question is whether these other forms of life would be able to survive on Earth and vice versa. Perhaps the environments are just so different that it would be too much of a shock.
Now, if aliens were to come to Earth, I’m sure I would be a bit skeptical of them, but I would probably trust them until given a reason not to. It’s like Jem and Will in Clockwork Angel. Jem always expects the best in people and will always assumes the worst. In this case, I would imagine that I would be more like Jem. What about you?
Speaking of aliens, does anyone know of any good alien books? The only one I can think of is the I Am Number Four series. Which reminds me, I still need to read the novella and the second book.

Treachery on V

In the television show V, Hobbes constantly calls Ryan out as a traitor even though his treachery has far worse consequences. Not only has Hobbes killed humans, he slept with Erica and then indirectly caused the death of Erica's ex-husband Joe. There is always that person who is quick to point out your faults, but doesn’t recognize their own.
This is pretty classic in YA books, especially when bullying is involved. One book that immediately comes to mind is The Lipstick Laws by Amy Holder. Britney calls April out on all of her actions, yet Britney does a lot of the same things herself. Britney was mean to nearly every person, but when April starts to throw a little of it back at her, Britney went crazy.
Like the movie, “Mean Girls,” I think most of this stems from insecurity. The person who is doing the accusing (in the case of “V,” it’s Hobbes) usually is doing it because they are uncomfortable with their own actions. All they want to do is put the blame on someone else. By focusing on Ryan, Hobbes doesn’t need to look at his own treachery and the consequences of it.

We've all known people like this in our lives. They are quick to point out your faults, just so they do not have to look at their own. Always fun! Feel free to share your stories in the comments.

To see more of these treacherous actions, you can buy Season 2 of V on DVD and Blu-ray!

Alternate Universes

It’s kind of fun to sometimes imagine what you would be like if you existed in an alternative universe. Is the alternate universe “you” completely opposite from who you are? Is that how it works? Or are they the you would would have been had you grown up in that environment? Is this even making sense? There are so many things to think about when alternate universes come into the picture.
If we go with the former, the alternate universe version of yourself would be the complete opposite of you. I’m not so sure this would be smart/dumb, nice/mean... I think it’s more complicated than that. I’m having trouble articulating this, but I kind of think that if you were a generally nice person, this alternate universe version of you would be more sinister.
Then there is the second option. It’s the whole nature vs. nurture debate. Would you still be the same person if you were brought up in a completely different environment? I’m not so sure. I think there are certain things that are completely innate and would not change. Other things....well they could potentially be changed.
Do you guys think people (authors, etc.) sometimes create alternate universes so that their characters can act out being a “bad character?” You know--we have a generally good person and when we meet them in that alternate universe--they’re suddenly “bad.” What comes to mind (and is probably aging me here) is an episode of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” Haha, I know. Anyway, there is a “good version” and a “bad version” of Sabrina.
I suppose it would be kind of fun to play that opposite role for a bit.
What are your favorite alternate universe books/TV shows/movies? To be honest, I’m not sure if I’ve ever read one. I would really like some suggestions!
In the third season of “Fringe,” Olivia and her alternate version switch places. To see what happens, you can pre-order your copy of Fringe: The Complete Third Season on DVD here today: http://bit.ly/o2MYBv!

The Personality Makeover Story

The makeover story is as old as time. I grew up on these kinds of stories--Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and so on. If you think about it, they are kind of opposite. Cinderella gets a makeover, but her inherent personality is the same. The Little Mermaid (Ariel) wants to change who she is (a mermaid) into someone she isn’t (a person with legs).. ultimately to get a boy. Ariel gives up a part of herself (her voice) in order to experience this.
Does anyone ever get mad when a character changes who they are in order to experience a new situation? Don’t get me wrong, change is good... but sometimes I think that characters experience a complete change in personality. I’m not talking about growing up. Growing up is a natural process and obviously people change.
What I am referring to is when someone changes their personality in order to fit in with the popular crowd or to get a boyfriend or a number of different reasons. Teenagers do this and I suppose that’s why this is present in YA, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it. I’m the person that cringes when I see a girl change who she is because of a boyfriend. I cringe when it happens in real life and I cringe when it happens in books. How many times can I say cringe in a post? Cringe! Cringe! Cringe! It looks like such a funny word now.
I really wish this habit wasn’t so present in the media. People should really embrace who they are. If they want to make changes about themselves, do it for themselves! We shouldn’t be telling teenagers that it is okay to change who they are in order to snag the boy (or girl). If someone is only willing to be with you because a part of you is being stifled, then they are not the person for you. This post is getting a little rant-y, but I have just seen this happen so many times and it makes me sad.
I like being me and I wish more YA characters liked being themselves as well. But, if I had to change myself into someone else, I would totally choose Hermione Granger. Hello! She ends up with Ron Weasley. What a glorious ginger. (I put on my sarcastic tone here, but I do love me some Ron Weasley).
Do you like these personality makeover stories? Am I being too cynical? If you could makeover yourself in order to explore new situations, who would you make yourself into and where would you explore?
The television show “Supernatural” has just been re-imagined as an anime series. In order for the creators of the show to develop a new animated world, some characters had to go through a makeover to fit the feel of the new environments. Looking at Things in a New Light

We’ve all had those moments where our perspective changes after looking at life moments in a new light. What specifically comes to mind for me, is when I am having a problem and seek out help from a friend. Sometimes all it takes is someone else to look at the situation for a solution to come to mind. They are obviously going to look at the situation in a different light because it doesn’t directly involve them. It amazes me how clouded, as human beings, our views can be. I’m sure you all have known someone who you thought was pretty much perfect. Then one day... or maybe gradually over time... you realize that they are, in fact, not perfect. You start to look at the situation a little differently and BAM, you realize how clouded you have been. It can be a completely jarring situation. Sometimes it is even really hard to handle. The only way to survive these moments is to look at them as a way for you to grow.
On the other hand, we can also think a situation is absolutely horrible and when we think about it differently, realize it isn’t so bad. This happens a lot with teenagers in YA books. Teenagers are generally highly emotional and think of a lot of things as “the end of the world.” Usually when they step back from the situation, they realize it isn’t so bad. Even though I am in my 20s, I have to remember this too.
Many of our favorite characters in the books we love have had these perspective changing moments as well. They go through the whole book thinking one way and then they shift their perspective and everything changes. I’m talking about those sky opening up, ray of light moments where the characters can just go, “AHA!”
The moral of the story here: It’s always interesting to step back and look at things in a new light. I’m a firm believer in doing this every once in awhile with my life. Am I alone here... or do you guys do this as well?

With the television show, Supernatural, being transformed into an anime series, the creators can totally look at all of the events in a new light. It’s just like the Sookie Stackhouse books or the Twilight series being re-imagined into comic books. Super cool. Order your copy of Supernatural: The Anime Series on DVD or Blu-Ray here today:  http://bit.ly/p0WOMq!

ComicCon... I wish I was there!

Ahhh, if only I could be seeing all of the True Blood actors at ComicCon. I love how they genuinely seem to always be having a good time there in San Diego. Their panel in 2009 was amazing. You guys... if you've never been, you can't possibly understand how amazing SDCC is. Just look at the floor and all of the cool people there. I know the floor looks like chaos... but it is awesome chaos. Trust me. The floor of ComicCon is where I scored an ARC of Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. Yeah, ComicCon is amazing because you get to see a bunch of stars, but you also get to meet a ton of fabulous people. I still talk with some of the people I met at SDCC two years ago (thanks, social media)! I would go back in an instant and if you like anything pop culture, you should seriously consider attending sometime!

Have you ever been to SDCC? Would you consider attending?
