The Past Catches Up: One Tree Hill

In Season 9 of One Tree Hill, many of the characters have a past that catches up with them. Clay finds out something from his time with his wife, Brooke has to deal with X, and Dan tries to reconnect with his family. All of these scenarios have different outcomes and it was interesting to watch the characters try to handle them.

While I haven’t had the past catch up with me quite like the characters on OTH have, many of our favorite book characters have experienced similar things. Katniss makes one decision in The Hunger Games that changes her whole future. Events in previous Harry Potter books catch up with Peter Pettigrew and ultimately lead to his death.

Even though my life isn’t quite so interesting (luckily?), I can still relate to the characters on One Tree Hill and in these amazing books. It’s always fascinating to see how a character will react when something from their past is brought back into the present.

One Tree Hill Season 9 is now available on DVD and Ultraviolet! Let the rejoicing begin. I cry a little every time I remember that I don’t own this yet.

New Challenges on One Tree Hill

While I haven’t had any challenges in my life quite like the characters on One Tree Hill (kidnapping, sleepwalking, parenthood), I think everyone can relate to how scary it is to face new challenges.

Season 9 has the characters facing some pretty new challenges and also some that are familiar, but twisted in a different way--it’s not Jamie that gets kidnapped, but Nathan! That family... they go through some rough things.

My life isn’t quite so intense, but one of my biggest challenges was going back to grad school after taking a year off after undergrad. That first semester was rough. However, I’m happy to tell you that in less than four months, I will be finished! I made it. Wooo.

I’d still prefer watching that crazy challenges the characters experience on One Tree Hill than actually facing them myself. I don’t really want to go into fugue states and forget parts of my life. Mmmkay? Thanks.

The DVD is now available for purchase (with Ultra Violet too!). I seriously need to get my hands on one of these so I can relive the crazy moments over and over again.

Chris Keller: The Ultimate Returning Character on One Tree Hill

The ninth, and final, season of One Tree Hill brought back many characters from the past--Chris Keller, Dan Scott, Lucas, and Bevin to name a few. The ultimate returning character for me had to be Chris Keller!
Chris Keller was attached to so many of the story lines and really brought something fun to the show. Not to mention, he wore some awesome glasses. We last saw him in Season 4 when the cast went to Honey Grove, Texas to rescue Mouth from jail and crash a prom.
His arrival in Season 9 was definitely a welcome one. His friendship with Chase was always brilliant--especially when Chris Keller slaps Chase in the final episode. ;) The team of Chris Keller, Dan, and Julian was also a brilliant one. I was dying every moment they were on screen together.
I love how in Season 9 we got to see that Chris Keller is actually a good person. Sure, he’s crazy and conceited, but awesome. I can’t wait to watch his scenes over and over again on DVD!
You can buy Season 9 on DVD and Ultraviolet on 4/10! I can’t wait.

One Tree Hill: Series Finale

I know this isn’t about books, but the series finale of “One Tree Hill” is this week. I am definitely a late-comer when it comes to OTH, but I am so obsessed. I started watching it this past fall and I have seriously watched every single episode. I was like a crazy person. I went and bought all of the seasons on DVD (actually, I’m still looking for Season 7--UTAH!!!!) and watched them on Netflix too. I can’t believe there is only one episode left. At least it is a two hour episode. *sniff sniff*
The characters on OTH are what have captivated me the most. Whether it’s Nathan and Haley’s relationship, the funny lines by Skills, or Brooke’s evolution, I am completely invested. **Can we just talk about how amazing Brooke and Julian are together?! LOVE.** I’m going to miss the Twitter conversations with friends after every episode discussing everything from who we prefer: Nathan, Lucas or Julian to what we think Dan Scott will be up to next.
I’m really going to miss these characters after Wednesday (at least I’ll have the DVDs), but I’m excited to see what the actors get into next. I’ll follow these people for the rest of their careers. It’s just like how I will watch everything Kristen Bell is in after loving “Veronica Mars.” What can I say, I’m loyal. On a side note, there is a girl in one of my grad school classes that I swear is the actress that plays Mia. She probably thinks that I am a major creeper.
Anyway, you should probably tune in for the series finale on Wednesday and then come and discuss it with me. I am going to be in a glass case of emotion.

You can preorder the DVD/Ultraviolet Copy, available 4/10! I need this in my life.

Special Features on One Tree Hill

If you couldn’t tell already, I’ve been watching “One Tree Hill” like it’s my job lately. I basically watched all of Season 1 yesterday since I had off of work. Oh yeah. That happened.

Prior to that I was watching Season 8. My friend Becky and I watched about 8 episodes this weekend. It also has some amazing special features...and I’m totally a special features snob. It has over two hours of bonus features including three all-new featurettes, two full-length commentaries, deleted scenes and a hilarious gag reel.

I love how special features really enhance your viewing. I, unfortunately, haven’t gotten the chance to listen to the commentaries yet--but I cannot wait! I love to see what the people involved with the show have to say about certain episodes.

I did get to watch the gag real and one of the featurettes. It was so fun seeing all of the actors joking around with each other and being themselves. Gag reels are always one of my favorite features. Are you as special feature obsessed as I am?

For fans of One Tree Hill, the Eighth Season will definitely be one to own! Includes all 22 episodes on 5 discs plus all-new featurettes, commentaries, deleted scenes and gag reel http://bit.ly/w2DhRu! You can get it on DVD and Ultraviolet. I’ve watched the entire season. I have a problem.

Also, the Season 9 (the final season!!) premiere is tonight at 8/7c on The CW! You can bet that I’ll be watching. Will you?

Music on One Tree Hill

Music plays a huge role on “One Tree Hill.” For the 8th season, different artists came to the studio and sang their own version of “I Don’t Want to Be” (originally by Gavin DeGraw).
DeGraw still performs the song in a few episodes of the season and this original is still my favorite. I think it fits best with the opening credits. The pacing and tone both work. Although--this may just be because I’m so used to hearing Gavin DeGraw’s version!
Another one of my favorite opening credits performances is by Kate Voegele (Mia on the show). It’s always fun to have one of the characters singing the songs. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she has an amazing voice.
I’m thinking someone like Adele could really work for singing “I Don’t Want to Be.” I feel like she would keep the integrity of the song. Every once in awhile one of the performances would be completely changed and it was kind of jarring. I could see Adele making it her own, yet keeping the heart of the original.
If you could pick someone to perform the song during the opening credits of “One Tree Hill,” who would it be?
Check out Season 8 of “One Tree Hill” on DVD and UltraViolet and be sure to check out the Season 9 premiere on Wednesday, January 11 at 8/7c on The CW! I’m so excited. This show is like crack to me.

PS. Did anyone see the Halloween episode in Season 8 where the kids dress up as Harry, Ron and Hermione... and Clay was Edward Cullen. So. Funny.

The Other Half of Me

In Season 8 Episode 13, Brooke and Julian finally tie the knot on One Tree Hill. Their wedding was beautiful and they are actually an amazing couple. I would think anyone would want their wedding to be as full of love as Brooke and Julian’s was. The reception was also gorgeous. Amazing.
The Best Man and Maid of Honor speeches were the absolute best. Haley and Nathan’s kid is so funny. He is actually one of my favorite people on the show. I love how nervous he was about giving the speech, but then he gave such a heartfelt speech. Plus, he started with a quote from JK Rowling. I mean, COME ON! I have to make a Maid of Honor speech in June--super nervous. I should probably take notes from One Tree Hill.
Do you know of any good books with awesome wedding scenes? The only ones I can think of are Breaking Dawn and obviously Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Missed the RSVP to the wedding? Here's your special invitation with Season 8 of the One Tree Hill http://bit.ly/w2DhRu! To catch up on Season 8, you can check out the DVD, which is also available on UltraViolet. I’ve been watching on my iPhone non-stop.

The Dynamics of Relationships in One Tree Hill

Okay, so for about two weeks this fall I watched “One Tree Hill” for roughly three hours each weekday. I was obsessed. It’s like a soap opera...but not. The dynamics of all of the relationships are so entertaining. It’s like a good YA novel.
In the Season Eight episode, ‘Valentine’s Day is Over,’ we get a look into many of the relationships in Tree Hill. We get to see Haley and Nathan spend Valentine’s Day as a married couple, Brooke and Julian have a romantic day, and Clay and Quinn have a lovely dinner.
Haley is pregnant again and her relationship with her son is so cute. Can I also mention that her son is adorable with the girl that he likes! He buys her heart printed shoe laces. Aweeee. Haley is snooping for Valentine’s Day gifts, like always. Also, she wears some killer high heels while pregnant. Wow.
Brooke and Julian have a full Valentine’s Day to say the least. You can really tell that they love each other. I love that Brooke and Julian decide to adopt a baby at the end of the episode. They seem so happy together and actually really seem excited to be parents. Hopefully this works out for them!
Clay and Quinn also have a cute Valentine’s Day. Clay pretends that he thinks Valentine’s Day is stupid, but then totally surprises Quinn with a romantic dinner, live musical performance and gifts. It’s pretty extravagant!
In Tree Hill, NC, there is never a dull moment. Hope, heartbreak and a hurricane - all in one season! One Tree Hill's Season 8 is packed with drama and ready for order (http://bit.ly/w2DhRu)!
You can buy the season on DVD with UltraViolet--which is awesome! I love having the episodes on UltraViolet so I can watch them on my Mac without having to put a disc in. Are you as obsessed with One Tree Hill as I am? I know this isn’t books but I need someone to discuss my obsession with! Please.
